Rouget de Lisle (1760-1836)

 
Captain of engineers stationed at Strassburg. Rouget de Lisle composed ‘La Marseillaise’ – the future national anthem of France – on the night of 25-26 April 1792 in Strasbourg after hearing about the declaration of war issued by France against Austria.

 
Initiated in 1782 into “Les Freres discrets”, Charlesvlle, France.
