I am in favor of helping the prosperity of all countries because, when we are all prosperous, the trade with each becomes more valuable to the other.

William Howard Taft

William Howard Taft (1857-1930) was the 27th President of the United States from 1909- 1913. During his presidency, Taft effectively implemented “dollar diplomacy,” that is, he actively used financial instruments to implement US foreign policy. After his presidency, he became a member of the National War Labor Board during World War I, at the initiative of President Wilson, and in June 1915, he became chairman of the League to Enforce Peace, which submitted a proposal for the creation of the League of Nations. In 1921, the new President, Warren Harding, appointed Taft as President of the Supreme Court. He served in this position from 1921 to 1930 and was the only person in American history to also hold the office of President in his lifetime. The main contribution that William Howard Taft made to history lies in his involvement during this period in developing and strengthening the American legal and constitutional system. His achievements in this field were significant and lasting and contributed to the consolidation of American democracy.

William Howard Taft became Master Mason at ‘Kilwinning № 356’ Lodge in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1901. Although his many responsibilities did not allow him to be regularly involved in Freemasonry, Taft greatly appreciated and supported the Craft.
