Cheshire’s 4,000 Freemasons have dipped into their pockets and donated a £1 million to good causes in the last 12 months.
Their head, Stephen Blank, has welcomed a number of dignitaries, charity representatives and voluntary workers to an ‘online’ grant celebration evening to share how organisations had benefited and the difference they had been able to make as they put the grants to good use.
The Freemasons have explained that they are not a charity themselves and do not collect money from the public. But every lodge makes collections from its members for charitable use and this soon adds up.
