The Freemasons Rising Star Lodge 1022 hosted their first meeting in Bloemfontein on 31 May 1864.
This year they celebrated their 160th birthday with a meeting where they were about 37 people in attendance.
According to one of the members of the lodge, this is still relevant because many members of the Bloemfontein community, such as General Dan Pienaar, Mr Ivan Haarburger, and Sir George Grey, were also part of the lodge.
