Much is made of the secrets of the Freemasons, a fraternal order whose symbols appear on everything from the dollar bill to the famed concert venue Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco’s Nob Hill.

But the Masonic is not only a place to see concerts—it’s also the state headquarters of Freemasonry and boasts a nearly 50-foot “endomosaic” mural that includes soil from all of the 300+ California lodges pressed between its acrylic panes, a window filled with cryptic symbolism.
