20 years ago Monday, the city of Bangor lost of a piece of history in a devastating fire downtown that gutted the Masonic Hall.
“Unprecedented,” said Bangor Fire Department Assistant Chief Greg Hodge. “We’ve never seen anything even remotely close to that. I can’t remember the number of millions of gallons of water that was flowed onto that fire. It was just something that you never probably never see again.”
Hodge was among the emergency responders called in back then.
Authorities believe the blaze started in the basement and quickly spread throughout the building.
